Griswold
This story starts under a deck in someone’s back yard.
In June 2009, Prairie Dog Pals was called to a home to rescue a family under their deck. When The Pals came out, it was a Momma Cat and her four kittens. With four boys, she had it rough!
They were taken into one of our foster homes, separated (so the kittens get used to trusting and bonding with humans), spayed/neutered, vaccinated and tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. They all tested negative so they were named, socialized and went up for adoption!
The were all named after bears. There was Kodiak, Grizzly (now known as Griswold), Bear and Panda. Gris was named Grizzly because he was not happy at all living inside separated from his family! He would get mad, get up on his hind legs and growl and hiss! He was not socializing with his foster family so I was asked to take him and work with him.
When I picked him up, he was in his carrier at the adoption clinic. You didn’t even need to look in the carrier and he would hiss and spit. He was not a happy camper!!
Arriving home, he went into one room, the carrier was opened and he came out cautiously. He needed to get used to the smells and sounds of his new foster home. I left him alone for a while with food, water, toys and litter box. That night I slept on the floor with him and during the night he investigated me but was still wary. Within two nights, he was sleeping with me and within four nights, he was sleeping on the pillow. It was time for introductions to my other fosters and my own cats. I could not have asked for any better situation! Everyone smelled him, hissing a few times, no fighting and he was in! He was ready for the adoption clinics!
I was bringing him to the adoption clinics with Jackie and Louie. Jackie was adopted so it was down to Griswold and Louie. My husband decided that he wanted to adopt Louie so Louie would go to the adoption clinics with Griswold so he wasn’t alone. Since black cats are harder to adopt out, we went several times. October was coming and we don’t show black cats in October. I was becoming attached to Griswold and he had quite the personality! He was a SUPER AWESOME cat! Everyone loved him and he loved everyone! He wasn’t related to anyone, but fit right in! We made the choice to adopt him!
Now, he still loves everyone and vice versa. He is a GREAT cat, plays fetch, cleans everyone, and is the typical Taurus kitty. Always hungry (or pretends to be), playful and loving. Loves to be petted, brushed, doesn’t mind having his nails clipped and has a laid back personality. I am so happy he is a part of our family! You can see lots of photos below!!
ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING!
